Nike Replacement Spikes Question
Here at simply golf shoes we believe in golfing Kama which is why we always try to find time to answer your questions. We give back to you which results in us playing better.
This question comes from Beth.
Hi Guys, I know you love Nike Golf Shoes and so I was wondering if you would be able to help. I own a pair of Nike golf shoes, in which the spikes need to be replaced. Can I basically replace them with any spike, or do I need to replace them with the exact Nike kind? In other words, are golf spikes a standard size to fit all shoes?
Over the years Nike has used different spikes with different mounting systems. As you don’t mention the specific shoe that you have I think your best bet is to take the shoes to your favourite golf shop. They will be able to identify which type they are and will have the replacement spikes.
If you like the shoes and plan to keep them for a while you can buy the replacement tool and a box of spikes and do it yourself. Then as one or two wear out you can replace them yourself.
Also if you play on a soft course that’s always green, buy the spikes that have a lot of little spikes. If you play on a course w/a lot of hard pan or very low mown fairways buy the spikes w/3 or 4 spikes called stingers.
Hope this helps.

How to Pick the Perfect Golf Shoes
Golf shoes are a fundamental piece of kit for any golfer. The fact that 98% of courses wont let you out without them aside, the average golfer walks around 4 to 5 miles during a round and spends a good 4 hours on his feet. This is why you really can’t afford not to have a good pair of shoes. We have put together a list of a few important points to remember when choosing golf shoes.
Fit
- Before selecting a size, measure both feet. If you get different measurements, then choose the size that fits the larger foot.
- When you try new golf shoes, wear the kind of socks that you intend to wear with your shoes.
- Test your shoes by standing on one foot at a time. Wiggle your toes and stand on your tiptoes. Shoes should bend at the same place where your foot bends.
- Golf shoes should fit tighter in the middle portion of the foot than other shoes. This area offers the most support while swinging. The middle portion of the shoe will stretch over time.
- Be sure that you have one-half inch of space from the end of your big toe to the tip of the shoe.
Waterproofing
Depending on the conditions you play in, you may want to consider a waterproof shoe. Waterproof shoes are more expensive, but they are much more comfortable in wet conditions. Look for a good warranty; some manufacturers such as nike golf shoes offer a 2 year warranty. Leather uppers are the best for providing support and waterproofing. Shoes made of synthetic
leather are less expensive but do not breathe as well nor do they offer as much waterproof protection.
Style
Last, but not least, choose the style of shoe you feel most comfortable wearing. Golf shoes come in more options today than ever before and include traditional saddle, trendy styles, athletic styling and even golf sandals for those that take the laid back approach to the game.

Nike SP-8 TW Tour Golf Shoes Review
Nike Golf Shoes have become a regular sight out on fairways around the world. This is manly down to the living golf legend that is Tiger Woods. Could his success be down to his shoes? We have been lucky enough to spend some time in his shoes to find out.
Before I start with this review I must admit that every year I buy the Nike Golf shoes Tiger wears and every year I am impressed with the quality, style and finish of the shoes but I have tried to keep this unbiased.
The Nike SP-8 TW Tour Shoe is one of the most comfortable shoes around. There is no need for a cart when you can walk in these and this is largely down to the Forefoot Flex Channel grooves. The natural flex of the foot needed to walk the course in comfort is enhanced with Forefoot Flex Channel grooves. Regardless of terrain, your foot flexes where it’s supposed to, especially on demanding uneven ground and hilly lies.
There is more grip in these shoes than in a room full of rock climbers but this doesn’t cause the shoe to feel heavy or unbalanced. Nerves before monster drives were banished to the back of my mind. I trusted the shoes to grip and they didn’t let me down.
Aesthetically these shoes look great, simple, refined and elegant. If I may be permitted to liken the world of Golf Shoes to cars then these shoes are the equivalent of maybach. Quiet and dignified in their appearance but with no need to scream “look at me”. Those in the know will give you a respectful nod, knowing that you are a golfer with taste. They also have the added advantage that they won’t make you look like a footballer while on the greens.
Now for the price. For around £89 you can buy these shoes. £89! That’s a bargin especially when you think they come with a years warranty.
Ok so I might have failed to make this review unbiased but the truth is that these shoes are simply amazing. I played better in them (down to the shoe or thinking I am tiger who knows?) but they are just amazing.
What Nike Say:
Hit the course in this ultra-sporty, hyper-comfortable golf shoe with visible Air unit and large contrast Swoosh emblazoned on both sides of the Shoe.
Features:
- Premium full-grain leather
- Low profile caged Air-Sole unit
- Full-length Poron sockliner
- TPU T@ C5 (traction at contact) with Nike Power Channel outsole
- Scorpion Stinger Spikes and Q-LOK system
- Built on the Athletic last
- One-year limited waterproof warranty

A History of Golf Shoes
As with most technology, the humble pair of golf shoes has evolved over time with shoes today lighter and more robust than they have ever been. However the move from metal spikes to the modern shoe hasn’t been without its share of controversy.
At the turn of the 20th century golf shoes were in a word, lethal. Spikes in the golf shoes were known to gauge into the feet and the heel of the shoe were weighted with 850 grams. Making life on the fairways dangerous.
The controversy around wearing the correct men’s golf shoes to help improve the game has been ongoing for over half a century. In the Scottish publication, ‘The Golfer’s Manual’ in 1857, reference was made to men’s golf shoes proving that the footwear has always been a bone of contention: “Let the novice invest in a pair of stout shoes (boots constrain the ankles too much), roughed with small nails or sprigs, and he will march comfortably and safely over the most slippery ground that can be turned out by the meridian sun in the dog days.”
Over the years, men’s golf shoes have evolved into lighter, more flexible shoes that have lost the cumbersome metal spikes but not without a battle. A debate raged about metal spiked men’s golf shoes as research studies proved that the spikes are detrimental to green turf and putting quality. As a result, many golf courses in the UK ban men’s metal-spiked golf shoes and there is a greater variety of rubber-soled studded golf shoes thanks to advances in technology. The decline of metal spikes in men’s golf shoes means less damage to courses, clubhouses and rubber designs are often more comfortable for the player.
As the game of golf has become more and more popular, ladies and men’s golf shoes have become a major concern for golf clubs that have to maintain their greens. More players means more damage to the greens. Eliminating or minimizing the effect of spikes in ladies and men’s golf shoes has an enormous impact on reducing the maintenance costs and improving the quality of the greens.
